We can apply many of our early biology lessons to horses just as we do to our own bodies. Horses are mammals and so they give birth to live young and feed them with milk in the first few months. Horses are also herbivores, adapted to grazing. They are social animals and so will feel most comfortable when in a herd. Even if you keep your horse or pony inside, the arrangement of the stable can help the horses feel together.
Shoeing a horse
The hot horse shoe is placed against the cleaned and clipped hoof. The extreme heat will kill any bacteria which live on the sole of the foot. This helps to prevent conditions like thrush.
