Ozone
Ozone is a blue pungent gas which condenses to a inky blue-black explosive liquid. It can be found in the upper
atmosphere, about 25 to 35 kilometres above the Earth. Ozone both forms and then decomposes again because of
absorption of ultraviolet radiation from the Sun. So ozone protects all living organisms on the surface below.
This vital ozone layer is under threat though. An arch enemy is highly reactive chlorine atoms which arrive with CFCs
creating a growing hole above Antarctica.
